An Update About MaxFunCon 2021
/We’ve got some sad–but probably predictable–news about MaxFunCon. But we’ve got some good news, too!
We will not be holding an in-person MaxFunCon in 2021
It’s just impossible to guess what things will be like by then. MaxFunCon has historically been a very special event that is centered on gathering a big group of nice folks from around the world, encouraging them all to interact with each other, seating them in spaces close together, laughing loudly, singing, dancing, sticking our hands into the same bags of marshmallows, and probably giving a bunch of hugs when it’s all over. While that is usually totally great and safe, it is hard to picture it feeling great and safe by next June. When we get together for one last MaxFunCon hurrah, we want to be able to do it right, and to have as many folks there to enjoy it as we can. Which brings me to the good news:
We do plan to have one last in-person MaxFunCon
MaxFunCon will return. We really, really hope it will return in 2022. But that’s very far away, and we need to wait until closer to that date before we’ll feel comfortable planning it and selling tickets to it. We have emailed all of the 2020 ticket holders to let them know, and to get some information so we can begin the process of refunding their tickets. If you are one of those folks, please check your email for a message from membership@maximumfun.org.
Let us know your thoughts!
After we concluded that MaxFunCon 2021 couldn’t happen in person, we started wondering how we might be able to bring a bit of that MaxFunCon sparkle to everyone via the internet. This is still very preliminary–in that we aren’t sure we can actually do it or that people would even want us to do it–but we’ve been thinking about putting together a MaxFunConline for 2021. (I know I just said there’s no guarantee this happens but I am personally very invested in getting that silly name to stick if it does). If you have 5 minutes to help us figure out if MaxFunConline is a thing we should try to do, please fill out this short survey.
Thank you! We’ll keep you posted on any developments via this blog, social media, and in our newsletter.
