On Diversity, Safety, and Inclusion
Maximum Fun's goal is for everyone to feel safe, welcome, and included during MaxFunCon. With that goal in mind, we ask all attendees, speakers, and performers to be aware and sensitive to the diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, and sexualities of the people you will meet and interact with over the weekend. We also set up a hotline at each of our events where a staff member can be reached at any time if anyone needs immediate help or assistance. The number will be included with attendee check-in materials.
The MaxFunCon Code of Conduct
Participants agree to:
Be considerate in speech and actions and actively seek to acknowledge and respect the boundaries of fellow attendees.
Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech. Adhere to the principle of affirmative consent in all interactions with fellow attendees, speakers, and performers.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
Harassing or discriminatory speech or imagery, (including racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, and ableist speech); inappropriate physical contact; sustained or willful disruption of talks or other events; unwelcome sexual attention; unwanted photography or recording; and deliberate intimidation.
Affirmative consent is:
"Yes means yes." This most obviously applies to sexual interactions, but also applies to casual physical and social interactions ("Can I join your lunch table?", "Can I get a picture with you?", and "Can I hug you?", for example). Affirmative consent within the context of sexual encounters is absolutely critical and is required under California law.
Take care of each other.
Alert a member of the MaxFunCon team if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this code of conduct. You will be provided with a phone number with your check-in materials.
If any attendee engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any lawful action we deem appropriate, including but not limited to asking the offender to leave the event.
We welcome your feedback on this, and we thank you for working with us to make it a safe, enjoyable, and friendly experience for everyone who is a part of MaxFunCon!
